<br />
Titulaire du Certificat d'Etudes Primaires, après un apprentissage de trois ans il devient tourneur sur métaux.<br />
<br />
En 1917, à 19 ans, il est mobilisé au 86ème régiment d'artillerie lourde. Il participe à la bataille de Verdun. Il fera partie de la commission exécutive de l’ARAC.<br />
<br />
Rendu à la vie civile en 1920, il est employé aux établissements Peugeot de Sochaux.<br />
<br />
Iréné s'ouvre à la politique en lisant l'Humanité et La voix du peuple, et en étudiant le mouvement ouvrier. Il se syndique à la CGT à Lyon et en 1932 adhère au PCF cellule 1 Villeurbanne (Rhône) puis à la cellule 24, dont il devient trésorier pendant 8 mois.<br />
<br />
Célibataire, sans emploi, il demeurait cours Tolstoï, à Villeurbanne.<br />
==L'Espagne==<br />
Iréné Roy arrive en Espagne le 16 novembre 1936 « pour battre le fascisme ».<br />
<br />

A la date du 7 mai 1938 le volontaire Roy Iréné se trouve au Centre de récupération et d'instruction.<br />
==Le retour==<br />
Il rentre en France le 13 novembre 1938.<br />
<br />
Après avoir contracté la tuberculose, il sera hospitalisé pendant près de dix ans. Il essaya ensuite de prendre un emploi d'ouvrier agricole.<br />
Iréné Roy décède le 28 avril 1961 à Anse (Rhône).<br />
